Everything in these chapters are just like the real world despite it is a true story. It is very unfortunate that Topthorn died but that is what happens in war. This book remind me of two books I've read that are both by Michael Morpurgo and they are called Wreck of the Zanzibar and The Butterfly lion. They are all touching, tearful, frightening and joyful and is very much like life; in life we cry, laugh and dream just like War Horse, The Butterfly Lion and Wreck of the Zanzibar.

Joey and Topthorn got captured by the Germans. They got a luxury stable. A young girl and her grandfather went into the stables. The girl wanted to keep the horses. The soldiers came a bit later and told Emilie that she could keep Topthorn and Joey then the soldiers left. Emilie's grandfather told Joey and Topthorn that Emilie had a disease and could die. Her mother, father and brother had died in the war. Emilie woke up the next day. Some soldiers came and took Joey and Topthorn to war a little while later and Emilie was heart broken.

1. What do you think will would of happened if Joey didn't get sold to the war?
2. How would the people riding Joey and training him react if Joey ran away?
3. What would the corporal do to Joey if Joey kicked him? How would they punish Joey?
4. When they were on the boat to the war what would of happened if the boat sank. What would you have done in that situation if that happened.
5. In the first battle how do you think Albert would have felt when Captain Nichols died.
6. How would Albert react and feel if Joey also died in the first battle?
7. If Joey died in the first battle it would of meant that he wasn't a very strong and trained horse but in the book it went on and on how strong and excellent Joey was and how much he was trained for that moment. Discuss it.

8. What do you think Albert and hos family were doing when all this was taking place.

I think that chapters 3 and 4 in War Horse are very much like the real world. Young horses really do get sold to go to the war to fight. Horses were used in World War 1 and World War 2 and Joey (the horse in the book) is getting sent to war just like the horses in other wars that might be happening right now. War Horse is a true story and reminds me of some of the sad war books my dad reads in his free time.

A small colt was at the horse sale. His mom was sold. The colt couldn't go after his mother. A drunken man wanted the colt so he got into the ring with some other friends. The men held him down. One man roughly took the colt to his home. There was another horse next to the colt called Zoey. The man left and his son Albert came and loved the colt. Albert stroked the colt’s fur and talked softy to it. Albert named the colt Joey. Albert and Joey happily grew up together. One day Albert’s father had a bet that Joey could plough for a week without giving up and if he didn’t he’d sell or kill it. Albert was sad but he had to do it. Albert’s father was always horrible to Joey so one day Albert’s father was about to hit Joey with a stick then Joey kicked him. Albert trained Joey so he didn’t get sold or killed. There was a war coming. Albert thought of joining the war with Joey. He said they'll be good fighters.
